2. ~ Anteater ~

Anteaters have a sticky tongue! They are toothless! This is a solitary animal, with an exceptional sense of smell and hearing. Anteaters sleep in other animal's burrow or sometimes one is has made for itself. Its tail is almost equal length to its body. Its bushy tail also servers as its blanket at night. It will curl its tail around itself warm and snug. During the mating season (between March and May) is the only time you will find more than one anteater at a time. Unless, it is a mother and her baby. Anteaters can live approximately twenty-six years. Its tongue is about two feet long. The tongue is found inside its long nose. Sticky spines cover the tongue for grip. Five fingers can be found on each forepaw. The second and third fingers have sharp claws for digging and fighting. These claws are extremely important to its survival, and you will soon learn that the anteater walks on its knuckles to protect its life saving claws. Anteaters average weight is forty-four to ninety pounds. Its main diet is ants! Other snacks are termites and fruit. Its sense of smell is forty times that of humans. Anteaters may sleep fifteen hours per day. The mother gives birth while standing. Shortly after the birth of the baby, the baby will then climb aboard the mother's back. Anteaters are very silent animals, and they are also slow to mature. The babies don't feed on their own until approximately their 2nd birthday.
