The badger has a white and black face with a narrow white stripe from its nose down to its shoulders. Its body is flat in shape and low to the ground. It sleeps away the season of winter. The badger is well known for its fierce fighting ability. Cars, man and coyotes are its greatest enemies. Cougars are also great foes of the badger. Badgers are secretive creatures and are rarely seen. Perhaps this is partly because they are nocturnal. Badgers eat other burrowing animals. Their front fore-paws are blessed with sharp claws designed for digging up and digging after things. They can live up to fourteen years in their natural environment. The badger wears a shaggy coat. It also has a formidable temper! The badger fights to the death and will never surrender. The badger prefers to live in open areas. The male badger is the boar, female is a sow, and a baby is called a cub.
